Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/562864507548662/
The Feminist and Queer Diaspora Studies working group aims to create a supportive and collaborative pedagogical space to engage with feminist and queer approaches to diaspora studies and diasporic organizing. Join us for our first reading group on Identity and Cultural Production in Diaspora.
We will be discussing two texts:
– The Problem with Diaspora Art by Zarina Muhammad from the White Pube
– Performing Disidentity: Disidentification as a Practice of Freedom, from José Esteban Muñoz’s Disidentifications: Queers of Color and the Performance of Politics
This event is open to all. Please email email@example.com for a copy of the Muñoz piece, and if you are not a SOAS student please indicate so in the email so you can be registered for entry into the building.
The building and room are wheelchair accessible. There are wheelchair accessible toilets on the ground floor and gender neutral cubicles in the basement of the building.
Directions to the room: Located in SOAS’ main building on the ground floor – head to the main set of lifts and follow the corridor round to the left and follow the signs to the room.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details of the next meeting.
