The CHASE Feminist Network fully supports the protests against the murders of Black people by police, in the US and around the world. The murder of George Floyd is not the work of a single bad actor, but a comprehensive system of oppression. This systemic racism is not limited to the police; it is witnessed in the experiences of our Black colleagues in the academy, in the disproportionate COVID-19 death rates of BAME health workers, and in all other walks of life. In Pride month we remember that Pride is not a parade or a corporation but a riot, a riot historically led by Black trans people. For too long institutions that should protect have instead enforced a system of white supremacy. It is time for them to be dismantled.
Statements of solidarity are empty without action. We will shortly be reopening our Small Projects Fund grant program with three grants of £500 specifically for BAME applicants, particularly inviting applications from Black LGBTQ+ individuals. We are also reopening applications for our steering committee for BAME applicants only. Further details can be found on our website, https://chasefeministnetwork.wordpress.com/, or by emailing us at chase.feminist@gmail.com.
